Author Name HERZOG, LOUIS Title DEMOCRACY'S ANDWER TO COMMUNISM THROUGH GROUP ENTERPRISE Binding HARD BACK Book Condition Very Good Jacket Condition VERY GOOD Edition FIRST Publisher NEW YORK THE WILLIAM-FREDERICK PRESS 1955 Seller ID 018494 Herzog came to the United States from Austria in 1896 and became a citizen in 1925. He was an engineer and was hired by the USSR to help teach Russian peasants how to use modern U.S. manufacturing machinery. The Soviets wanted him to stay and convert to Communism, but he refused. Back in the US at the height of the Great Depression, he began to think of and formulate a new way of life and economic system that prevented depression and provided economic security to all. He began work on his BEU (Basic Economic Unit) and worked on it the rest of his life. The BEU was meant to replace communism and free enterprise. It presents an interesting alternative to economic systems. Though Herzog presents an 'odd-ball' idea, some of these ideas have crept into modern economic thought. This is a scarce book on the taboo subject of tinkering with the 'American Way' and its free enterprise system. The book comes from the Library of the National Farmer's Union, though there are no external library markings. Included is a letter from Herzog's nephew, a professor at U of Wisconsin and a reply by the President of the Farmer's Union.
