This is a volume of the 54 volume set of the Britannica Great Books of the Western World. The cloth boards are clean and the gold-gilt lettering on spine is crisp and clear. All corners are firm and square. the top page-edges are gold gilt, which is clean and even. The binding is tight and the spine is square. The book has the 'feel' of an unread book It is NOT: ex-library; tainted by tobacco, mildew or mold odors, with indications of a previous owner, with markings, annotations or underlining. These books have a beautiful shelf-presence and are a nice addition to any library. Questions welcome.

This is a complete works in six volumes, limited to 1000 sets. The boards are blue buckram with 3/4 blue pebbled calf. Endpapers are marbled. There is gold-gilt ruling at front and back spine and all corners. Top page edges gold-gilt and all other edges rough-cut. The spine has seven compartments, two devoted to gold-gilt titling and the rest with elaborate decorations., There is no date, but the style indicates 1890 to about 1900. Each volume has a colored frontispiece by noted illustrator Edward Wheeler and it is protected by frontispiece tissue. There are other black and white illustrations at the beginning of other titles that are within in a single volume. There is the very slightest of shelf-wear to all edges and all corners are firms and square. The books are clean and tight. The top and bottom spine tips on some volumes have tiny closed tears. Volume 4, Amelia, has rubbing at gutter and small chip at top spine, however boards remain tight and square. This set has lovely shelf presence and can be a nice additon to any classic library.
