This is an exquisite four volume set of the Burke speeches. These are bound in fine rose-colored silk cloth and brown polished calf leather. There are five raised bands with gold-gilt rulings outlining panels. Title and volume designations are gold-gilt. The front boards have gold gilt rulings at length of spine and leather corners. The brown marbled endpapers are pulled over all page edges. These volumes are tight and solid. They are clean, with no previous owner plates or names or any other markings found in the books. All corners are firm and square. Amazingly, the spines at top and bottom of all books show no tears, chips, bends or other problems, unusual for almost 200 years old (see pictures). There is nominal shelf-wear to all edges, with volume four showing light rubbing at front and back boards. There are twenty pages in volume three that became wrinkled, more likely at publication rather than being handled. All books show very light foxing. It appears these books have remained un-read and merely shelved for their entire life. These are beautiful examples of the speeches and the nicest we've seen.
